Sasha Allen has been the only openly transgender performer to have reached the Battle Rounds of The Voice Live Shows. This has been true over the course of 21 seasons. Newtown's duo, Jim Allen and Sasha Allen are currently in the top 8 during the 21-year run of The Voice Live Shows! Sasha revealed that he's transgender as part of the Blind Auditions package. He said to Parade.com that it took a lot of thought before making the decision. "That was an extremely difficult choice to make as it's exposing a sensitive part of yourself to a lot of millions of people," said Sasha, who transitioned while he was in high school. The fan support as well as the effects that this has had on people, even though the decision was hard to make it was what ultimately was the main factor that convinced Sasha that the transition was worthwhile. The Voice wasn't even around when we played this song. When we received it, we were ecstatic. We knew the song. already knew, it was a track we knew we had ideas to arrange. I was really surprised in the extent to which they struck the nail on their head."
